jeffclickhomes contest
I found an iPad contest @ http://jeffclickhomes.com/story/our-2010-readers-choice-ipad-giveaway I entered today.
The contest is running until July 21, with daily entries via twitter, facebook, or blogging.
Only catch is, the link provided on the contest page doesn't get you to the voting ballot page. However, http://www.newsok.com/ReadersChoice/vote will get you there. I don't know if it technically counts for the purposes of the reader's digest tally, but it's still showing support for Jeffclickhomes and it allows you to submit a vote, so that should still qualify us to try until the 21st.
Give it a shot and spread the word!

Travel Insurance Servces - iPad entry - worst travel fears entry 3
My third and last entry detailing my worst travel fears for travelinsure.com 's iPad giveaway at http://www.travelinsure.com/contest/ipad.asp is interactions with foreign law enforcement or customs.
This stems from horror stories I've heard here and there where for some minor infraction (or no infraction at all) tourists are (or at least feel that they are) blackmailed by police officers or other enforcement agencies. The stories vary but one basic example goes something like;
For a minor offense like jaywalking, you get stopped by a police officer.
He/She makes it clear the easiest way out is by direct handing them cash. The alternatives may be that you get taken in for processing (which could take long enough you miss your flight) or they may allege you've done something much worse than jaywalking which, again, would take time and resources to counter.
Bottom line, you're on vacation and it's a lot easier to fork over cash then put up with whatever else could result from dealings with law enforcement. In particular because the vast majority of us don't know the line regarding our rights and protections while traveling.
The best way to combat this fear is to probably know your rights well, including your embassy etc.... If they want to make things nasty for you I'm sure they still can, but if you clearly know your rights or lines of defense, hopefully, they'll find an easier mark to pick on.

Travel Insurance Services - iPad contest Entry 2
The people over at travelinsure.com have a pretty good contest that's letting me reminisce about my past trips while making me think about everything that could go wrong :-).
The contest is over at http://www.travelinsure.com/contest/ipad.asp ... try entering!
My second fear just comes with being away from home. I have several pets, who can't travel with me generally, so I'm always afraid something will happen to them while I'm away and can't do anything. We typically have a friend or a pet-sitting service stop by to check on everyone and feed them regularly, but if they need to go to the vet or... worse... I hate to think about not being there for them.
My sister had this happen where she was away when her cat died. As if that's not bad enough, she hated having to talk to the pet sitter over the phone and talk them through what had to be done.
Well, sorry for the less than cheery post. Anyone who feels like commenting, please let me know how you cope with traveling while your pets are at home.

Travel Insurance Servces - iPad entry - worst travel fears
Hello again, this time I found a contest over at http://www.travelinsure.com/contest/ipad.asp where you blog about your worst travel fears.
This is inspired by an actual trip I've been on, but fortunately it ended up on the not nightmare scenario. The fear, ending up in a foreign hospital (and one where, justified or not, you have less confidence in the expertise, cleanliness, etc....). This would suck because a) medical care is already not an enjoyable and it takes a while to develop trust for something major when you know your doctor well. b) any communication barrier between you and proper medical care is frightening, and c) even for something minor it could screw up your return dates by just missing your flight or needing to not be contagious before you return...
We were on a trip once to and my wife started getting particularly ill right before coming home. We made it on the plane and she was miserable but trying super hard to make it home. We made it, went to the hospital the same day and she was in the hospital for about a week. The thought of being in a hospital for a week, going through the procedures she experienced if we were not home in the US, is frightening to say the least.
